Innovation Announces Pharmacy Automation Platform Donation to the Purdue College of Pharmacy
Innovation, the market-leading provider of high-volume pharmacy automation technology and software solutions to the retail, hospital, federal health care, and mail order pharmacy markets, today announced an in-kind donation of its pharmacy automation platform to the Purdue University College of Pharmacy. The Innovation donation includes Innovation’s cabinet-based counting solution, SmartCabinet, and two Light-Way units, Innovation’s easy to use pick and place solution designed to increase productivity across will call storage and retrieval, order collection and inventory processes. Innovation’s in-kind donation also includes the RapidPakRx pouch packaging machine from RxSafe.
“There are rapid advancements across pharmacy automation technology today,” said Marv Richardson, CEO, Innovation. “Our company’s commitment is to use pharmacy automation solutions from Innovation to help our customers “Unleash the Full Potential of Pharmacy” so that pharmacists can focus on their singular and collective motivation – the patient.”
Innovation’s CEO, Marvin Richardson (BS, ’80) and Greg Wasson, Chairman of the Board of Innovation (BS, ’81) are both graduates of the Purdue College of Pharmacy.
“This gift enables the Purdue Pharmacy to be the most automated community pharmacy of any academic pharmacy and provides our students with experiences that demonstrate the potential of automation to enable pharmacists to engage in innovative and impactful direct patient care,” said Eric Barker, Dean of the Purdue College of Pharmacy.
With pharmacy automation, pharmacists spend less time filling prescriptions and more time working directly with patients. Innovation in-kind donation will help Purdue pharmacy students gain first-hand experience in understanding how integration of pharmacy automation solutions into a pharmacy practice site will allow them to practice at the top of their licenses – enabling student pharmacists to spend more time delivering patient care including counseling, immunizations, COVID testing and Medication Therapy Management.
“This new technology will allow Purdue Pharmacy students the opportunity to be trained in a state-of-the-art automated facility,” said Nicole Noel, Director of the Purdue University Pharmacy. “These units will also increase patient safety during the process of dispensing medications ensuring each patient receives the correct medication.”
“I am a proud Purdue Pharmacy graduate, as is my daughter,” added Richardson. “It is my hope that enabling Purdue Pharmacy students to gain first-hand experience with pharmacy automation solutions from Innovation will introduce students to the tremendous potential that pharmacy automation enables and that can be applied in a practice environment upon graduation,” added Richardson.
